Administration and policy of the Dutch DPA

Management
The work method of the Dutch DPA is set forth in the Administrative Regulations.

The Dutch DPA must draw up administrative regulations (Article 56(3) of the Wet bescherming persoonsgegevens - Wbp; Dutch Data Protection Act), among other things providing for rules on the work methods and procedures in view of a proper and careful performance of the different tasks. This ensures that the different tasks of the Dutch DPA - supervision, recommendations and interventions - are clearly seperated.

As an administrative body, the Dutch DPA is of course also bound by the general principles of proper administration.

Policy
The policy of the Dutch DPA is adopted each year in a policy plan for the next four years.

The strategy of the Dutch DPA - in line with the intention of the legislator - is focused on strengthening the responsibility of the government and trade and industry for adequate privacy protection. The citizen should also take responsibility for defending his or her own rights.

Dutch DPA will foster this mutual individual responsibility by providing information, developing standards and promoting privacy-enhancing technology.
