Curriculum vitae

On the first of September 2006, Madeleine McLaggan was appointed as a member of the Dutch Data Protection Authority (College bescherming persoonsgegevens) for a four-year term by Royal Decree. She has been reappointed for a four-year term as from 1 September 2010. Her portfolio entails the private sector and social security.

From January 2003 until September 2006, she was employed by the Netherlands Competition Authority (Nederlandse Mededingingsautoriteit “NMa”) as Deputy Director of the Competition Department.

Between 1990 and 1997, Ms McLaggan practised law in Amsterdam specialising in IT-law and intellectual property rights. In 1997, she joined the NMa, where she held the following positions: Expert (1997-2000), Financial Services and Transport Cluster Manager (2000-2001) and Head of the Task Force which was specifically assigned with intensified investigation into the Dutch construction sector (2001-2003).

Madeleine McLaggan obtained her Dutch law degree in 1990 at the Amsterdam University, after which she completed the Professional Training Programme in Amsterdam (1991) and the Grotius IT Law post-graduate training course (1996).
