International tasks and activities

The Dutch DPA’s chief tasks include participation in the Working Party of supervisory authorities as referred to in Article 29 of Directive 95/46/EC and the membership of the Joint Supervisory Authorities for Europol, the Schengen information system and the Customs information system.

Within the scope of its international activities, the Dutch DPA takes part in the following working parties and conferences abroad:

  • Article 29 Working Party (chair since 2010)
  • Safe Harbour Panel
  • Consultative committee Council of Europe
  • Spring conference European Supervisory Authorities
  • International Conference of Supervisory Authorities (presidency executive committee since 2011)
  • Berlin Telecom Group

Within the scope of the supervision of European information systems that are used by police and the Justice Department, the Dutch DPA is a member of the following supervisory bodies on behalf of the Netherlands:

  • Joint Supervisory Authority for Europol
  • Joint Supervisory Authority for the Schengen Information System
  • Joint Supervisory Authority for the Customs Information System
