In its role as legislator, the government has a special responsibility towards the citizens. This also applies to the careful handling of personal data. The citizen must be able to rely on the fact that his or her personal data are in good hands when managed by the government. He or she may also expect that the civil servants that work with personal data are familiar with the statutory regulations for the processing, keeping, protecting and providing of data. At present, the government is working on establishing a proper electronic information structure. In this way, the quality of the data and the operations can be improved.
