Annual Report 2007

Review of 2007

In 2007 the Dutch DPA [College bescherming persoonsgegevens (CBP)] shifted its course in order to effectuate better compliance with privacy regulations. “Contrary to what is often alleged, the worth of the principle of privacy protection transcends the interest of the individual, the family or community. Ultimately, this principle of protection serves society as a whole. In the end, the boundaries the legislator has imposed have to be respected. As a supervisor, that is our primary task,“ Dutch DPA chairman Jacob Kohnstamm states in his preface to the Annual Report 2007.

The Dutch DPA has concentrated on carrying out investigations and enforcement actions. Priority was given to serious violations of a structural nature and to violations which entail major consequences for a substantial number of citizens or groups of citizens. The Report shows that the change in course has been succesful in the year under review.
